The Greek Orthodox Community of Whittlesea Women’s Group marked Mother’s Day with an afternoon of laughter, dance, and heartfelt celebration at their annual event in Epping, bringing together over 90 vibrant first-generation Greek Australian women.

The gathering was filled with joy and cultural pride, as the women honoured motherhood with traditional Greek music, spirited dancing, and the ever-popular tsiftetelia lighting up the dance floor.

Adding flair to the occasion was a surprise visit by “Pasha Eli” (President Eleni) and her lively committee, affectionately dubbed “the Harem,” whose appearance added a playful and theatrical touch to the celebration.

Guests were treated to a program that celebrated Greek culture, providing a much-needed escape from everyday responsibilities for the hardworking women of the community. The energy was contagious as the dance floor became a joyful space of freedom and expression.

“I was delighted to be invited and enjoy the hearty spirit and kefi of the women. These women are fist generation Greek migrants who wholeheartedly deserve these opportunities, to relax from the daily grind, stresses and responsibilities. These women deserve every moment of kefi,” said Kris Pavlidis. Their stamina and spirit are incredible. Events like this are a true reflection of our Greek culture’s heart—filotimo and kefi, always ready to rise to the occasion.

The group also took a moment to honour the eldest mother in attendance with a beautiful bouquet, generously donated by Soula Panagopoulos, and a surprise gift presented to Mrs Mahe, adding a personal and touching note to the festivities.
