In a remarkable showcase of musical talent and inclusivity, Greece secured victory at the 2025 International Low-Vision Song Contest (ILSC), held on May 16. Cyprus achieved an impressive second-place finish, highlighting the depth of talent across the region.
The ILSC, organised by the German Federation of the Blind and Partially Sighted (DBSV) in collaboration with VIEWS International, is a biennial event celebrating the musical artistry of blind and partially sighted performers worldwide. This year’s contest featured 25 entries from various countries, each bringing unique musical expressions to the global stage.
Greece’s winning entry, “Θα Τραγουδώ Όσο Ζω” (“I Will Sing As Long As I Live”), performed by Katholiki Tharenou and Dimitris Tharenos, captivated audiences with its emotive lyrics and powerful delivery. The song’s message of perseverance and passion resonated deeply, earning Greece its first ILSC victory.
Cyprus’s entry, “Πυξίδα” (“Pyxida”), performed by Nicoletta Livadioti and Nikos Demetriou, garnered widespread acclaim for its heartfelt composition and compelling performance. The duo’s synergy and the song’s evocative theme secured them a well-deserved second place, marking Cyprus’s best performance in the ILSC to date.
The contest’s online format allowed for global participation and voting, emphasising the event’s commitment to accessibility and inclusivity. Audiences worldwide were invited to cast their votes, contributing to the final results announced at midnight Cyprus time.
The ILSC continues to provide a vital platform for visually impaired musicians to share their artistry on an international stage, fostering a sense of community and celebrating diversity in the arts.
