The Australian Hellenic Choir’s upcoming concert ‘A Portrait of Greece’ takes place this Sunday June 1.

The concert has two parts. The first part will begin with Seikilos’ Epitaph, a song from ancient Greece dated around 200 BC.

It will continue with songs by Greek Australian composers, commissioned by the Choir, focused on the subject of migration from the perspective of descendants of migrants.

The second part will include songs from various Greek music genres and regions, such as Nisiotika and Demotika. A 15-piece orchestra will perform, along with solo vocal performances by Greek Australian singers.

“This is a concert for all ages and for all people,” said James Tsolakis, Founder and President of the Choir.

“It highlights talent in the Greek diaspora in Australia and includes a tour of Greek music from different regions.”

The Australian Hellenic Choir is a multicultural and multilingual group of singers. The Choir received a Multicultural Communities Award in November 2024 for its work in the area of multiculturalism.

All net proceeds from the concert will be donated to charities that assist people experiencing homelessness.

It will be held at 4.30pm, Sunday June 1, at the Sir John

Clancy Auditorium, University of New South Wales.Remaining tickets are available through the Choir’s Facebook page and Humanitix.
