A South Australian mother has been jailed for more than six years after she and her partner subjected a man to a violent and humiliating ordeal in a meth-fuelled act.

Angela Antartis, 26, of Woodville North, was sentenced in the District Court on Thursday for her role in the assault of a man she had learned committed a sexual offence.

As reported by The Advertiser, the court heard that on January 14, 2023, Antartis and her partner, Zoran Aligrudic, 44, detained the man at a property and launched a sustained attack after learning he had been charged — and later pleaded guilty to — indecently assaulting a sleeping woman.

During the assault, the victim was bound to a chair with duct tape, threatened with being set alight, and forced to apologise to his victim over the phone.

The court heard that Antartis used a knife to cut the man’s toes and forearm, exposing muscle, and scratched the word ‘pedo’ on his back.

Aligrudic poured alcohol over the victim while both attackers struck him with garden tools.

Antartis then used scissors to cut the man’s hair and beard. The pair later burned the man using an improvised flamethrower made from a deodorant can.

The man, left naked and blindfolded with his own underwear, was told to flee the property.

He escaped and was later hospitalised with multiple injuries including cuts, bruises, and lacerations.

In a victim impact statement read to the court in April, he described the attack as “the worst events of his 25 years of life,” saying it had left him with ongoing nightmares and severe anxiety.

Antartis pleaded guilty to charges including false imprisonment and multiple counts of assault.

Aligrudic, also pleaded guilty to the same charges, along with commercial drug trafficking and firearms offences. He will be sentenced on Friday.

The court heard Antartis’ meth addiction stemmed from a history of childhood trauma.

Judge Rauf Soulio said vigilante justice was dangerous and undermined the proper structures of dealing with offending in society.

Antartis was sentenced to six years and two months behind bars, with a non-parole period of three years. Her sentence was backdated to January 29, 2024.
