The Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) has officially announced a new collaboration with internationally acclaimed actress Nia Vardalos, as part of its preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

HOC President Isidoros Kouvelos confirmed the partnership during Vardalos’s visit to the Committee’s offices in Athens, where she is currently in Greece for the theatrical production of Tiny Beautiful Things at the historic Pallas Theatre.

The Greek-American star, best known for her breakout role in My Big Fat Greek Wedding and an Oscar nominee, expressed her enthusiasm for contributing to Greece’s Olympic journey. Vardalos proposed to form a dedicated team with her collaborators to support the mission of the Hellenic Olympic Committee in various ways, particularly in mobilizing the Greek diaspora in the United States and beyond.

President Kouvelos, who met with Vardalos alongside HOC Secretary General Stefanos Chandakas, Olympic Torch Relay Committee President Thomas Tokas, and co-director of Tiny Beautiful Things Spyros Katsaganis, welcomed her commitment:

“We were delighted to welcome the remarkable Nia Vardalos to the Hellenic Olympic Committee. She represents Greece in the most admirable way internationally. Nia immediately accepted my invitation and agreed to collaborate in supporting our Olympic team—whether through diaspora outreach or any other means she sees fit. I want to publicly thank her for joining our collective effort to ensure the best possible representation for Greece at the 2028 Olympic Games.”
