State League 1 – North-West Group

Clifton Hill emerged victorious in the round’s blockbuster derby against Yarraville. The hosts refused to buckle despite Doxa’s efforts to nick a point at their ground. A late strike from Lorenzi in the 87th minute sealed a 2-1 win, a massive result that hoisted the Greek Australian side to eighth in the standings. This weekend, Clifton Hill welcome Upfield, while Yarraville face Corio.

It was a goal fest at Brimbank Stallions, where Westvale Olympic delivered a cracking 4-3 away win. The Greek Australian outfit’s flair and fightback saw them climb to seventh, finally building a buffer from the dreaded drop zone. Next up, Westvale Olympic face a stern test away at Western Suburbs.

Panellinios head into this week’s “blue and white” derby with morale at rock bottom after a 0-1 home defeat to Upfield last weekend, leaving them licking their wounds.

State League 1 – South-East Group

Aris South Springvale are flying high, sitting top of the table with a game in hand. The “yellow and blacks” cruised to a 2-0 win away at Old Scotch, looking every bit ready to battle for promotion to VPL2. Next weekend, South Springvale head to Beaumaris.

Before that, however, Aris will face Malvern City in this weekend’s catch-up round. The big derby is scheduled for 8.30pm.

Malvern City bagged a massive home win against Mornington, edging out a 2-1 thriller to close in on the summit. The Greek Australian side will face another tough test next weekend, hosting the formidable Hampton East Brighton.

The round was a roaring success for the third “blue and white” team in the group, Bayside Argonauts. The “Argonauts” sailed to a 2-0 victory away at Gippsland United, cementing their third spot in the standings, just one point behind leaders Aris. Next up, Bayside Argonauts host the tough and talented Doveton.

State League 2 – North-West Group

It was a grim round for the Greek Australian sides in the North-West Group of State League 2. Table topping Altona East Phoenix suffered a painful 2-3 home defeat to Uni Hill Eagles, while Mill Park were thumped 1-3 at home by Williamstown. Next weekend, PAOK welcome Western Eagles, and Mill Park travel to face Geelong Rangers.

State League 2 – South-East Group

Bentleigh United Cobras couldn’t find a way through in their away clash against Berwick City, falling 1-0 despite a spirited effort. The “yellow and blacks” will look to bounce back when they host fourth-placed Knox City next weekend.

Chisholm United returned to winning ways, edging out bottom placed Doncaster Rovers 3-2. The Oakleigh-based Greek Australian side grabbed a vital three points to breathe easier ahead of a tough run-in. Next, they face Noble Park United away.

State League 3 – South-East Group

Waverley Wanderers are leading the charge after a commanding 3-0 away win over Ashburton United, sending a clear message to rivals. The “yellow and blacks” will look to keep the pressure on when they host bottom-placed Greater Dandenong next weekend.

State League 4 – East Group

East Kew’s Olympiacos clinched a hard-fought 2-1 away win against Yarra Jets in a match brimming with intensity and tough tackles. The “red and whites” will aim to keep the momentum going when they host Monbulk Rangers next weekend.

State League 4 – North Group

Who could stop Keon Park’s AEK last weekend? The “yellow and blacks” obliterated Thornbury Athletic 6-0, sitting pretty atop the standings alongside Melbourne University. Next, the “two-headed eagle” travel to face Moonee Ponds United.

It was a tough weekend for the other two Greek Australian sides in the group. West Preston fell 0-2 at home to Moonee Ponds United, while Apollon’s Darebin United couldn’t match Melbourne University’s quality, losing 3-1 away. Next weekend, the two “blue and white” clubs lock horns in a storied derby at Preston’s ground.
