La Trobe University has opened applications for the Vassilogiannis PhD scholarship, named in honour of the late Anastassios Vassilogianis, a great supporter of the university’s Greek Studies program.

The scholarship has been established thanks to the generosity and vision of its namesake, who had a strong interest in supporting Hellenic studies and research for and by students enrolled in Greek Studies at La Trobe.

“We are delighted to be able to offer this postgraduate scholarship, named in honour of the major benefactor of La Trobe University’s Greek Studies program, the late Mr Anastassios Vassilogianis,” said Greek Studies coordinator Dr Stavroula Nikoloudis.

“We look forward to welcoming a new postgraduate student to the program in the near future, who will explore an aspect of Greek language or culture at La Trobe University.”

The Scholarship is open to any future PhD candidates, whether they be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen, an International student, a permanent resident.

It covers a duration of three and a half years and $35,000 per annum.

Applicants sought are those who have an interest in Greek language and/or culture, relating to Greece or the diaspora, or both.

The research topic is open to various areas, such as culture, art, archaeology, history, language, literature, migration, identity, society, politics, education etc, with it to be developed in consultation with the supervisor.

Applications for the scholarship are open until 15 July.
