Professor Andreas Evdokiou has called it time as president of the Cyprus Community of South Australia, stepping down with his head held high after a decade of work in the role.
The community organisation revealed the announcement of Professor Evdokiou’s departure, praising him for his great work in the role.
They noted his success in various areas, among which includes the Cyprus Festival which he oversaw from its inception ten years ago and has quickly grown into a flagship celebration of Cypriot heritage in the state.
Professor Evdokiou thanked the organisation and its members in his final message, saying:
“Serving our community has been one of the greatest honours of my life.”
He noted the decision to step down did not come lightly, but he felt the time was right to allow for new leadership to take the reins.
“My hope is that this moment will inspire important conversations about where we are going as a community, and how we continue to preserve not just our traditions, but the integrity and courage that built this community,” he said in his message.
“Though I step away from the role, I remain, as ever, a proud member of this community, hopeful, grateful, and committed to seeing it flourish for generations to come.”
The organisation itself stressed the significance of his term as President, stating:
“Under his guidance and leadership, and through the collective effort of the Executive Committee, our Community has grown into what it is today: united, respected, financially secure, and deeply connected across generations.”
They closed the announcement by saying:
“We thank Andrea for his outstanding service, his vision, and the example he has set for all of us.”
