As of Sunday, 29 June, individuals applying for a new police-issued identity card in Greece are now required to present a Personal Number, following the implementation of new identification procedures by the Hellenic Police.
The only exception applies to those who have already initiated the process of obtaining a Personal Number but have not yet received it, provided the delay is not due to their own actions.
The Hellenic Police are advising applicants to consult the official website for up-to-date instructions and documentation requirements to avoid delays and ensure smoother service. Full details are available at: www.astynomia.gr/odigos-tou-politi/dikaiologitika/ekdosi-deltiou-taftotitas
The Personal Number is part of Greece’s ongoing digital transformation strategy, aiming to streamline administrative services and replace older identification systems with a unified code for all citizens.
