The Justice For Cyprus Co-ordinating Committee (SEKA) of Victoria, in collaboration with the Cypriot Communities of Melbourne, has officially unveiled the program of commemorative events for the for the 51st anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

The events will commence on Saturday 19 July at 2pm with a minute’s silence to be observed on during the Cyprus Program presented by Labrini Lambrou Christopher (1-3pm) on 3XY Radio Hellas in memory of the fallen.

The organisers stated they request those at home to also light a candle in honour of the fallen soldiers.

A memorial service for the fallen will be held the following day on Sunday 20 July, 10am, at the Holy Church of St Eustathius in South Melbourne.

A wreath laying ceremony will be held later that same morning at 11.30am at the Australian Hellenic Memorial.

The Cyprus Community of Melbourne and Victoria will host an event at their premises in Brunswick East at 3pm, which will feature an art exhibition, speeches and presentations from officials and students, as well as a music program.

The entire program consists of the following:

– Exhibition of Cypriot Painters on the theme: “The Beauty of the Homeland and Its People Is Not Diminished by Invaders and Conquerors”

– Greeting by Mr. Andreas Grigoriou,Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and Head of Administration of the Presidency, representing the Republic of Cyprus for this remembrance.

– “How were our families affected by the national tragedy of 1974?” – A presentation by two high school students, Savina Koumidis and Georgia Vardavakis

– “Γνωρίζω την Κύπρο / Getting to know Cyprus” by Yiannis Milides – A presentation of a bilingual book by Philologist Anthi Tzani and Kindergarten Teacher Vicky Petala

– Musical program by Evangelia Baxa and Georgios Sevastakis: “We Sing for Cyprus”
