Greek Australian conservative commentator Nick Adams has been nominated by United States President Donald Trump to be the next US ambassador to Malaysia.

Adams, born Nicholas Adamopoulos, is best known for his online ‘alpha male’ persona and vocal support for Trump.

In 2004 he was elected to Sydney’s inner-west Council of Ashfield and became Australia’s youngest deputy mayor the following year.

During his time on council, there were some controversies including a standoff with local media that led to threats of the suspension of the Liberal Party.

He resigned in 2012 and later moved to the US, becoming a citizen in 2021.

The 40-year-old is a self-described “prominent and outspoken critic of illegal immigration, discriminatory practices under the guise of critical race theory, a leading voice against the perils of radical feminism, and a champion of American exceptionalism”.

He has had backing from the administration, despite having no formal diplomatic experience.

“Mr. President, thank you for the honor of a lifetime. In your America, all dreams come true. It will be my honor to represent the United States of America in Malaysia,” Adams wrote on X.

“To the esteemed Members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, I look forward to a confirmation process that is at the heart of the Constitution that has given me the freedom to pursue the American Dream.

“Thank you again to our Greatest President Ever! God Bless the United States of America!”

Trump confirmed Adams’ appointment in a post Truth Social account.

“Nick is a bestselling author, speaker, and commentator. Nick graduated from the University of Sydney and, since then, has made it his life’s mission to extol the Virtues of American Greatness,” Trump said.

Adams’ appointment is still yet to be confirmed by the US Senate.
