Writers have been granted more time to polish their work, with the Greek-Australian Cultural League (GACL) extending the deadline for its 2025 Literary Competition to Friday 1 August.

The annual competition, now in its 71st year, invites original and unpublished submissions from Australian residents aged 18 and over. Entries are accepted in Greek, English, or bilingual format, across two categories: poetry and short stories.

Participants may submit one entry per category and may write in either or both languages. Poems must not exceed 100 lines, while short stories are capped at 2,000 words.

Winning entries will receive a monetary prize and certificate, with all selected works to be published in the 71st issue of GACL’s esteemed literary journal Antipodes.

Submissions must be sent in Word document format to: gaclitcomp@gmail.com

A separate attachment must include:

  • Full name and pseudonym
  • Address
  • Email and phone number
  • Line count (poetry) or word count (short stories)

The entry form and full competition guidelines are available via the GACL website or by contacting the League directly at the above email address.

The winners will be announced at a special literary event later this year.
