Kostas Tsimikas’s playing time at Liverpool appears to be under more doubt than ever after the club brought in a third left back in Milos Kerkez, though the Greek star has seemingly signalled his intention to stay and continue as a squad player.
Since joining Liverpool in 2020, Tsimikas has mostly served as deputy to Andy Robertson, playing significantly less minutes than his Scottish counterpart.
The addition of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth has complicated things further for the Greek, with him now seemingly third in the pecking order.
Kerkez’ signing seemed to be a prelude to either Tsimikas or Robertson leaving Liverpool and both have attracted attention from other clubs, though the links have died down of late.
Despite this, Tsimikas has seemingly indicated on his Instagram that he plans to stick it out at Liverpool, writing in a post after their 3-1 win in a pre-season friendly against Preston North End (in which he played): “Szn 6 ep.1”.
The Greek defender spoke with Sport24 last month, explaining that, while he would prefer more game time, he values the role he has in playing for a top club.
“It’s definitely a temptation to play more, but for me, the 27 to 29 games I play every year in all competitions mean more than playing 40 for another team and in another league,” Tsimikas said.
“Here I am on the Broadway of football. I’m happy here, for five years I’ve always been happy with these players I had by my side and with the jersey I wore.”
It remains to be seen what coach Arne Slot will do with the left back situation, whether it be that one of Robertson and Tsimikas is offloaded, or they do indeed head into the season with all three players.
