State League 1 – North-West
Western Suburbs were the big winners in the Greek Australian derby, seeing off Yarraville with a commanding 2-0 victory. The hosts came out all guns blazing, controlling the ball from the off and ultimately bagging the three points to climb to ninth in the table. This Saturday, Suburbs head to Westgate, while Yarraville’s Doxa will look to regroup when they host Ballarat City.
It was honours even in the other Greek Australian derby, as Westvale Olympic and Clifton Hill battled to a scoreless thriller. The stalemate left a bitter taste for the hosts, who were eyeing a win to close the gap on the top three. This week, Westvale welcome table-toppers Keilor Park, while Clifton Hill face a tough trip to Banyule City.
State League 1 – South-East
The Greek Australian trio in the South-East group of State League 1 continue to strike fear into their rivals.
Table toppers Malvern City ran riot away at Collingwood City, doing whatever they pleased on the pitch to secure a thumping 4-1 victory. The final whistle saw them firmly entrenched at the summit. This Saturday, Malvern will host Mazenod in what promises to be a cracking encounter.
Bayside Argonauts kept their promotion push on track with a hard fought 1-0 win away at Brandon Park. The “Argonauts” look dead set on securing a third straight promotion in as many years, and no one seems capable of stopping their rampant run. This week, they’ll welcome Old Scotch to their patch.
South Springvale’s Aris unleashed havoc against bottom placed Gippsland United, smashing them 6-1 in a demolition job. The “Yellow and Black” boosted their morale ahead of a tough run-in, and this Saturday, they’ll host Doveton.
State League 2 – North-West
Altona East Phoenix’s PAOK left Whittlesea Ranges with a point after a hard-fought 1-1 draw. The “Two-Headed Eagle” stay second in the table, just a point shy of leaders Lalor United. For Round 16, they’ll host Albion Rovers on Friday.
Mill Park couldn’t get anything going against Lalor United, with the hosts proving more clinical and nicking a 1-0 win with a stunner of a goal. The “Pigeons” will aim to bounce back when they welcome Western Eagles this Saturday.
State League 2 – South-East
Chisholm United were the standout winners in the Greek Australian derby, thumping Bentleigh United Cobras 5-2 in a proper spectacle. The match was chock full of chances and no holds barred duels across the pitch. This Saturday, the Oakleigh based side travel to Berwick City, while the Cobras host Peninsula Strikers.
State League 3 – South-East
Waverley Wanderers’ AEK kept their fine form rolling, brushing aside Middle Park 3-1 with little fuss. The “Yellow and Black” are hot on the heels of the leaders and will fancy their chances when they host Croydon City this Saturday.
State League 4 – East
East Kew’s Olympiakos couldn’t get the job done against Albert Park, falling 2-1 and slipping to sixth in the standings. This Saturday, the “Red and Whites” will look to regroup when they host Ringwood City.
State League 4 – North
Keon Park’s AEK suffered a heavy 4-0 home defeat to table toppers Fawkner last Friday. The “Two Headed Eagle” will aim to dust themselves off when they travel to Moreland United this week.
West Preston kept their momentum going with a solid 2-0 home win over Thornbury Athletic. The “Greens” will look to keep the good times rolling when they host Melbourne University Soccer Club on Saturday.
Darebin United’s Apollon fell 4-2 away at Watsonia Heights. This Saturday, they’ll face another tough away day when they travel to Moonee Ponds United.
