Five individuals suspected of involvement in the killing of Professor Przemyslaw Jeziorski, a UC Berkeley Haas professor, earlier this month appeared before a Greek court on Monday to respond to charges related to the murder, according to lawyers.
Among those appearing, according to Reuters, was the professor’s ex-wife, a 43-year-old Polish national. She was arrested last week along with her Greek partner and three others — a Bulgarian and two Albanian nationals. The woman, who denies any involvement, is the ex-wife of Przemyslaw Jeziorski.
“She is innocent,” her lawyer, Alexandros Pasiatas, said. He said he was confident that the main investigation will prove she had no involvement.
A confidential police document seen by Reuters states the professor was shot in the chest and back on July 4 in Agia Paraskevi, a northeastern suburb of Athens.
According to media reports, the accused gunman is the ex-wife’s new partner who has allegedly claimed he “did it all for her.”
“She has nothing to do with the murder,” her lawyer said.
“She had no prior knowledge of the whole thing. She happened to be the murderer’s girlfriend and now the most important thing is that she is terrified about the future of her children because she thinks that she may lose them.”

Police recovered six bullet casings at the scene. Video footage reviewed by investigators reportedly showed some of the suspects fleeing in a luxury car, prompting the issuance of arrest warrants.
Greek authorities have not released the names of the suspects and have yet to formally disclose the charges. According to police officials, the woman’s partner has confessed to the shooting. She is accused of moral complicity, while the others are accused of assisting the perpetrator. The murder weapon has not yet been recovered.
