Archbishop Makarios played host to the visiting Australian Ambassador to Greece, Alison Duncan, in a warm event wherein they expressed a united interest in strengthening the ties between Greece and Australia.
Archbishop Makarios hosted Duncan with a dinner at his residence in Sydney on Wednesday evening (23 July), which was attended by numerous other clergy members.
The pair discussed various topics of common interest, with emphasis on the bonds of friendship that have linked the peoples of Greece and Australia over time, as well as on the contribution of the large Greek diaspora down under.

Both Archbishop Makarios and Ambassador Duncan expressed their commitment to the common goal of strengthening and deepening relations between the two countries, and expressed their willingness to cooperate in this direction.
The Archbishop extended his thanks to Duncan for her honorary visit and wished her well in her diplomatic duties in Greece.
Among the guests at the dinner were Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis, the Protosyncellus of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, Archimandrite Christophoros Krikelis, Archdeacon Athinagoras Karakonstantakis and the Sub-Dean and Associate Professor of Theology at St Andrew’s, Dr Philip Kariatlis, together with his wife.
