Stefanos Tsitsipas has suffered a stunning loss to Australian Chris O’Connell, going down in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
After the world No.30 levelled proceedings in the second set, O’Connell dominated in the deciding set to stay alive in Toronto.
This comes after the Greek has tumbled to 30th in the world rankings, his lowest since 2018.
Ahead of the match the 2021 French Open and 2023 Australian Open runner-up took to social media to announce a reunion with his father as coach.
“Some journeys have a way of circling back to where they began,” Tsitsipas posted on social media.
“After some time apart, I’ve reunited with the person who first believed in me – my father.
“I’m grateful to share the court and the road ahead with him once again. We’ve been through every chapter of this journey together, and this next one feels right.
“Sometimes, coming home is the boldest step forward.”
It was 12 months ago, during Tsitsipas’ opening-round match against Kei Nishikori, he had a falling out with his father and then ended their professional collaboration.
