Greece’s men’s national basketball team has gotten off to a winning start in the first of seven planned friendlies before Eurobasket 2025, beating Belgium 74-60 at the OAKA Basketball Arena.
The Greeks emerged victorious in the clash, playing without numerous stars including Giannis Antetokounmpo, with Dinos Mitoglou top scoring with 18 points.
Mitoglou was one of 11 players that scored during the game, demonstrating great diversity among the points scorers.
Greece outperformed the Belgians in three of the four quarters, with the visitors only winning the third period with 21 points compared to the hosts’ 15.
The scoreboard at the end of each quarter read: 21-18, 36-28, 52-49, 74-60.
In addition to Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Greeks also played without Kostas Antetokounmpo, Vassilis Toliopoulos, Homer Netzipoglou and Alexandros Nikolaidis.
The hosts tried out many formations against a tough team that will participate in Group D of Eurobasket.
Greece will play another six friendlies before kicking off their Eurobasket campaign against Italy on 29 August (AEST).
The Greeks’ group also consists of Cyprus, Spain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Georgia.
The “blue-whites” will be expected to finish inside the top four of their group, which would confirm their spot in the Round of 16
