A deeply troubling case of alleged child abuse has emerged in Thessaloniki, involving a 10-year-old girl and two adults now facing multiple serious charges.
A 24-year-old woman and her 37-year-old partner have been brought before the Thessaloniki Prosecutor following allegations involving the woman’s underage daughter.
The two suspects face a range of charges including repeated sexual and physical abuse of a child under 12, violation of domestic violence laws, and complicity in criminal acts including exploitation against a minor. They are expected to face judicial authorities in the coming days.
The case came to light during a broader investigation into domestic abuse.
Authorities say that during questioning, the woman disclosed sexual and different kinds of physical abuse by her partner toward her child.
The child later gave a statement to police supporting the allegations and shared additional details about the home environment, including claims of physical and sexual abuse.
According to police, the child reported that both adults had used physical force against her, with the most shocking part being that the mother held down the child while her boyfriend abused her.
The child had also repeatedly witnessed acts of violence within the home, predominantly her mother being abused by her boyfriend.
Following the investigation, arrest warrants were issued.
The 37-year-old was apprehended at the Promachonas border crossing while allegedly attempting to leave the country, and the 24-year-old was arrested by the Child Protection Unit.
