The Hellenic Film Society (HFS) is set to present two summer screenings of pictures celebrating iconic performers in oscar-winning actress Olympia Dukakis and acclaimed singer Stelios Kazantzidis.
The HFS will host two screenings in New York this month as they showcase quality cinema of the past and present.
The first will be a free screening of the 1987 romantic comedy ‘Moonstruck’ at Athens Square Park in Astoria, New York, the film in which Dukakis won her oscar for her performance as the mother of a lonely bookkeeper (player by Cher).
The second will take place on Labor Day weekend and will showcase ‘Stelios’, the 2024 biopic exploring the life and extraordinary career of Kazantzidis.

‘Stelios’ will be shown at the newly renovated Sapan Greenport Theatre in Greenport, New York.
A Q&A session will follow the screening along with a live performance by musician Mavrothi Kontanis.
“We’re thrilled to pay tribute to Olympia Dukakis and Stelios Kazantzidis, two hugely popular performers who have meant so much to the Greek community and to audiences of all nationalities,” said Maria C. Miles, Hellenic Film Society president.
“These two screenings will inspire our audience to get ready for the New York Greek Film Expo, a Greek film festival for all New Yorkers, which runs 2-12 October, when we’ll be showing the latest and best Greek films in Manhattan, Astoria, and Fort Lee, New Jersey.”
