Chrysoula Tsakiri, née Alavera, surrounded by family and friends, recently celebrated her 88th birthday at a taverna in the Toorak area.

Children, grandchildren, siblings, great-grandchildren and friends gathered around her with a surprise organised by her granddaughter Chrysoula Zachariou, who is an anaesthesiologist in Melbourne.

Chrysoula Tsakiri has five other siblings, Giorgos, Argyro, Giannoula, Kostas and Theocharis.

Everyone wished her a happy birthday and may it be a hundred years.

Chrysoula Tsakiri arrived in Australia on April 4, 1964 on the ship “Patris”, after a 28-day journey with her daughter Maria.

Her first job was as a cook in a nursing home in Cheltenham.

She says she went through many difficult years but now, with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her whole family, she lives a wonderful life.

She thanked everyone for coming to her party and wished everyone good health and sent her love.
