St Monica’s College, Epping added the final touch to their celebration of their 60th anniversary year with the planting of a time capsule set to be unearthed in their centenary year.
The school put the time capsule into the ground on Tuesday (19 August) at their St Stephen/Gaudette Campus, the original birthplace of St Monica’s College.
A mass preceded the digging before the students, alongside Principal Brian Hanley, went to work at putting the time capsule into the ground.
The idea for it evolved over last year during the school’s 60th anniversary celebrations as a means of capturing glimpses of life at the school as well recording the events of its history.

The time capsule serves as the final part of the celebrations, with it containing special anniversary memorabilia, copies of College accounts and records, as well as notes form students and staff reflecting on life in 2024 and what the future might hold.
The school has organised for the time capsule to be dug up in 2064, 100 years on from its establishment.
Hanley had noted in a media release ahead of the time capsule planting that:
“It will be a fantastic experience for our staff and students in 2064 to recover this capsule as part of the College’s centenary year and enjoy the many surprises they will find inside which reflect on life at the College in 2024.”
