A Kids Taverna Night is being held by the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW next Friday (29 August).
Hosted at the Greek Community Club in Lakemba, the taverna night will be filled with food, fun and entertainment, raising funds in support of the GOC NSW Afternoon and Saturday schools.
As part of the event, students of the schools will put on a dance performance under the direction of dance teacher Paroula Thurban.
Artemis Theodoris, President of the Sub-Committee of the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW Afternoon & Saturday Schools, told Neos Kosmos that it’s key to have the community support so the schools keep growing.
“It supports the cultural value that we instil in the students and supports the preservation of Greek language, heritage, traditions, and obviously education,” she said.
“The children can remain connected with their heritage while excelling in Modern Greek.”

She said the students always look forward to the annual event.
“They get excited to perform in front of their family, grandparents, and other family members. They’re keen to show off their dancing skills.”
There will also be raffle ticket draw held on the night, with prizes including two tickets to Konstantinos Argiros at the Sydney Opera House, one term of free tuition (valued up to $1,000) , a Panasonic Micro Hi-Fi System with CD & Bluetooth SCPM250 , a Galaxy Tab A8 and a pearl necklace.
Additionally, the evening will also include lucky door prizes which include: Two $100 vouchers to Thai by the Beach, Brighton-Le-Sands and two double passes to the 30th Greek Film Festival of Sydney (excluding opening & closing nights).
