The Greek Film Festival of Sydney is set to make history in its milestone 30th edition as it extends to the west for the first time ever.

The festival, organised by the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW, will feature a curated line-up of 15 pictures that will be screened in Sydney’s west from 16-26 October at Riverside Theatres in Parramatta.

The first screening will be held on Thursday 16 October with a cocktail opening night event that will feature Kostas Haralambous’ ‘Kapetan Mihalis’, based on Nikos Kazantzakis’ iconic novel of the same name.

Craig McMaster, Riverside Theatres Director, expressed great enthusiasm in adding the Greek Film Festival to their cinema.

“Welcoming the 30th Greek Film Festival of Sydney to Riverside for the first time is a big step in our growing multicultural film-festival program,” McMaster said in the Community’s press release.

“We’re thrilled to partner with the Greek Film Festival team and can’t wait to share the spirit and storytelling of Greek film with our community this October.”

Harry Danalis, President of the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW, noted:

“This expansion is a significant milestone for the Greek Film Festival of Sydney. It’s a testament to the festival’s growth and our commitment to making Greek culture and film accessible to an even wider audience.”

Nia Karteris, Chair of the Greek Festival of Sydney and Greek Film Festival, added that the Community is “overjoyed to introduce the magic of Greek cinema to Parramatta”.

“The opportunity to share our rich heritage and storytelling with a new community is a true honour,” Karteris said.

“We believe this new audience will be captivated by the incredible films we have in store and look forward to celebrating with them in October.”

Parramatta will be the third location for the festival this year, joining Norton Street and Moore Park in showcasing its diverse selection of films for its 30th edition.
