Billy Cotsis’s new documentary ‘The Greeks of South America‘ will be showcased at the coming Greek Film Festival in Sydney, providing an in-depth look at the filmmaker’s travels through the Hellenic communities that have existed in the region since the 1800s.

Cotsis’s documentary will be shown on Thursday 16 October, 6.30pm, at Palace Cinema Norton Street, giving a closer look into his recent journeys to South and Latin America in 2024 and 2025.

The film includes footage from his visits to seven different countries, spotlighting multi-generational Greek speakers, businesses, churches, and cultural traditions.

It explores the ways these communities have preserved their Greek culture for over two centuries.

In addition to the screening, Cotsis will also feature in another Film Festival initiative, that being a Q&A session hosted by Ouzo Talk with Sydney-based filmmakers on Tuesday 21 October, 6.30pm, at Steki Taverna.

The event, titled ‘Sydney Silver Screen: A Tribute to Local Legends’, will include filmmakers Alex Lykos, Peter Andrikidis, and Kay Pavlou, with the trio and Cotsis to provide insights into their work and their processes when creating their films.
