Panathinaikos’ preparation heading into the derby with Olympiacos has been anything but ideal after recording two poor results and sacking their coach, with the pressure now falling on the entire squad to prove they have what it takes to be successful this campaign.

The “Trifylli” takes on their bitter enemies in the first derby of the 2025/26 Greek Super League, with their fourth round clash at “Leoforos” Stadium on Monday morning (AEST) to provide a clear sign whether the Greens have what it takes to be competitive this term.

Panathinaikos has been in great strife and will head into the match with a caretaker coach in Christos Kontis, the past assistant of Ivan Jovanovic and the man who led them to victory in the 2023/24 Greek Cup Final.

They will hope to somehow assemble some structure and rhythm in their bid to topple the reigning champions.

The case could be made that the settled Olympiacos side has an equal amount of pressure on them to perform as a loss could reflect badly given the chaotic image that the Greens are currently presenting as a club.

AEK will have a keen eye on the result, though their first priority will be beating Larissa away.

Enosi is one of three teams to be perfect thus far, the others being PAOK and Olympiacos, and it is a record they will not wish to let go of.

PAOK, similarly, will be on the hunt for a fourth straight triumph when they host Panetolikos on Sunday morning.

The match stands as a chance for the Thessaloniki side to regain some confidence after taking a hit in the Greek Cup midweek, thanks to a comprehensive upset at the hands of Levadiakos.

The “blue-greens” will hope to keep that momentum going when they face OFI at home on Monday morning.

The Cretans are also in fine form with back-to-back wins in all competitions, while their only loss saw them put up a fight against PAOK, demonstrating the strong image they have presented thus far.

Aris will travel to face Kifisia away, the side fresh from defeating Panathinaikos last weekend.

Sebastian Leto’s side will be more than eager to make it two upsets in a row and the “yellow-blacks” will be wary given the recently promoted side has already proven they can indeed accomplish such results.

Panserraikos is vying for its maiden points of the campaign when they challenge Atromitos at home.

The Serres club is yet to even score this term, and they will wish to put that poor form away quickly or else risk falling behind the rest of the pack.

Asteras Tripolis will equally be keen to showcase a strong display in their away clash with Volos, with the Arcadians having recorded just one point from their opening three games.

The Magnesia side will be hopeful they can make it two wins from two after defeating Panetolikos last matchday, and strengthen their place on the ladder.
