The Neos Kosmos family mourns the loss of Georgia Flaskas, partner of our beloved colleague Dimitris Troaditis, with whom she shared life’s journey for 36 years.
Georgia was born in Melbourne on 22 June 1968, daughter of Athanasios Flaskas of Kythera and Antonia (née Beis) of Kallithea, Pylia, Messinia, both of whom are still with us and today grieve the untimely loss of their beloved daughter. She passed away on 24 September 2025, leaving an irreplaceable void.
A devoted teacher and librarian, Georgia served in secondary education for nearly three decades at Upfield, Diamond Creek, Lalor, Richmond and Lalor North Secondary College, as well as at the Rowden White Library at the University of Melbourne. She supported and inspired her students with the same love with which she taught.
Georgia never confined herself to the classroom. She authored the book That Woman in Black, drawing on her grandmother’s story to give voice to elder migrant women. She created and produced radio programs on 3CR and was a key member of the Brunswick Women’s Theatre, contributing with passion to culture and public discourse.
Above all, she was a wife and mother. Together with Dimitris, she raised two children, Elektra and Anatoli, who now carry forward her legacy in their own ways: Elektra has already followed in her mother’s footsteps into education, while Anatoli, still a student, carries within him the inspiration and strength she bestowed.
Her absence weighs heavily on us, yet her presence will remain indelible, through her work, her kindness, and the love she gave so generously.
We stand by Dimitris, their children, her parents, and her sister Mary, and offer our deepest condolences.
