Emilia Makris, formerly known as Emilia Murray, has returned to Adelaide United, signing a three-year contract.
Makris first signed with the Reds in the 2021/22 campaign after progressing through the Football SA elite pathway.
She went on to make 29 appearances and score three goals during her initial stint, including a memorable debut strike against Sydney FC in November 2023 at just 18 years of age.
“I’m really excited to be back home. This is the Club that gave me an opportunity as a youngster and I’m looking to repay that over the next few seasons,” she said in the club announcement.
The 20-year-old is Greek and Indigenous, and in a recent interview with aleagues.com.au for Indigenous Football Week, spoke of the importance of culture.
“Before every game I always I know what I’m representing” she said.
“I’m representing my family, it’s not just me, I’m playing for something bigger than myself.
“I think of little me and how I can represent them and also encourage them to know that they can do exactly the same as me and grow up and, you know, be on, yeah, be in the A-League, be in the world stage. Yeah, I just want to be an example so that they know that it’s possible.”
On the international stage she captained the Young Matildas at the 2022 Pacific Women’s Four Nations Tournament in Canberra and Queanbeyan, and was most recently selected in the squad for the 2024 AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup qualifying campaign.
Earlier this year, she made three appearances for the Young Matildas at the ASEAN Women’s Championship 2025 in Vietnam, scoring once.
