The stage is set for an epic clash in Thessaloniki as PAOK and Olympiacos both look to score the biggest win of their league campaigns yet.
The two giants go head-to-head at “Toumba” Stadium on Monday morning (AET) in the Greek Super League’s sixth round, with the two unbeaten teams both eyeing a massive victory.
Olympiacos arguably enters the game with less to lose as even a draw would serve as a positive result that keeps them above PAOK on the ladder, though it would give AEK a chance to sneak into first.
The Thessaloniki giants, meanwhile, will approach the match with more desperation to win, particularly after recording back-to-back draws in their last two league fixtures.
Another interesting element to the match is the fatigue factor as both teams had to travel away for their midweek European fixtures, with Olympiacos slightly better off than PAOK given their game took place a day earlier and such afforded them a bit more preparation time.
A victory to either team would go a long way to inspiring confidence among the players for the rest of the season to come.
AEK will no doubt closely monitor the result of that derby, though their first priority will be securing maximum points in their away game with Kifisia.
Enosi, who will enter the game off the back of a midweek European game, cannot afford to take the “blue-whites” lightly, especially since they have already pulled off one major upset this season against Panathinaikos.
Panathinaikos, the other team burdened with European football midweek, will be on the hunt for a vital win over Atromitos at “Leoforos” Stadium.
The Greens earned their first league success last round, and they will be desperate to keep that form going as they strive to rebuild after a very slow start.
Levadiakos battles Panetolikos at home with the “blue-greens” looking to keep their fairly positive start going and earn their third league win of the campaign.
Aris faces OFI away in the round opener on Sunday morning and nothing less than three points will make them happy, especially in the wake of their draw to bottom-placed Panserraikos last matchday.
The Serres club will strive to build on that well-earned point when they host Asteras Tripolis, with both teams looking to snap their winless runs in the championship thus far.
Larissa will equally be keen to end their winless league run when they challenge Volos at home.
Despite not winning, Larissa has proven a tough team to crack with four draws recorded so far and the task for them will be finding some way to go that step better.
