Australians will lose an hour of sleep this weekend as daylight saving time officially begins on Sunday, 5 October.
At 2am, clocks will move forward one hour to 3am, marking the start of longer evenings and shorter mornings. Sunrise and sunset will both occur about an hour later compared to the day before, giving more light in the evenings.
The change, often referred to as “spring forward,” “summer time,” or simply daylight savings, will remain in effect until autumn, when clocks are set back again.
The time difference with Greece will be 8 hours for three weeks, until Sunday, 26 October, when winter time will be applied there, making it 9 hours.
