An event will be held in Sydney this weekend to mark the first anniversary of the Living Museum “Our People, Their Stories”, a project dedicated to preserving the experiences of the Greek diaspora in Australia.

The museum, launched in October 2024 by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, collects and archives oral histories from first and second-generation Greek migrants, aiming to provide a record of migration journeys and settlement experiences.

The anniversary event will take place on Saturday 4 October, at the Australian National Maritime Museum.

It will be attended by Archbishop Makarios of Australia, Greece’s Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, and NSW Minister for Multiculturalism Steve Kamper, among other guests.

The program includes the screening of a commemorative audio-visual feature and selected recorded stories, as well as an exhibition of historical objects linked to Greek migration to Australia.

The Living Museum, accessible online, continues to add to its collection of stories and artefacts that reflect the history and contribution of Greek Australians.
