Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to visit Australia in March 2026 to join the Greek diaspora in celebrating the national anniversary of March 25, former Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Dollis has confirmed to Neos Kosmos.

Dollis, who now advises the Prime Minister on Middle East and Africa affairs, revealed that he will accompany Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis on his official visit to Australia later this November.

The visit, first hinted at through a post by Australia’s Ambassador to Greece, Alison Duncan, signals a new chapter in strengthening bilateral ties.

“It was a pleasure to meet with Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis to discuss new opportunities in the bilateral relationship and his upcoming visit to Australia,” Ambassador Duncan wrote.

According to Dollis, who previously served as deputy leader of the Labor Party in Victoria before returning to Greece, the Foreign Minister will travel to Canberra, Sydney, and Melbourne, aiming to deepen cooperation between the two nations.

“The goal of this visit is to further enhance Greece–Australia relations,” Dollis told Neos Kosmos.

“I also expect the negotiations for the Greece–Australia Double Taxation Agreement to be finalised.”

This November’s mission will lay the groundwork for Prime Minister Mitsotakis’ official trip next year, which Dollis said will “likely take place in March 2026,” coinciding with the Greek National Day celebrations. The plan aligns with comments made by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during his recent meeting with Mitsotakis in New York.

Meanwhile, a series of high-level Greek government visits are already underway. Culture Minister Lina Mendoni concluded her Australian tour earlier this week, while Deputy Foreign Minister for Diaspora Affairs, Yiannis Loverdos, began his visit on Monday, starting in Sydney.

The broader Greek delegation includes senior officials from the Ministry of Interior, among them General Secretary Athanasios Balerbas (responsible for Civil Registry and Elections), General Secretary of Citizenship Dimitrios Karnavos, and Aikaterini Ouli from the General Directorate of Citizenship. They are joined by Zoi Tsirakopoulou-Glinou and Alexandros Arapetsikas from Loverdos’s diplomatic office.
