Alphington Grammar combined as one big community to honour its students, with mixed emotions for its Year 12 pupils who are wrapping up their schooling years and getting ready for their final exams this month.

The school’ students, families, staff and school council members all gathered at the Capitol Theatre last Saturday to recognise academic excellence across the VCE years as well as in Service, Leadership, Sport, Music and the Performing Arts.

The 2026 School Captains were also announced with James Fokianos and Isabella George to occupy the positions next year.

The school’s Principal, Dr Vivianne Nikou, addressed the full auditorium, saying:

“Today we gather as one community to acknowledge and celebrate not only individual success but also to recognise the importance of dedication and perseverance that each of our awardees embodies.”

She added: “Hard work and commitment brings its own rewards. Like a champion athlete it takes years of practice and dedication to build the skills, knowledge and attributes to be the best in your field.”

The evening showcased the wonderful talents of the students including the Greek and Folk band, the Alphington Dancers, who choreographed and performed the own original dance items as well as the magnificent performance of “Winner Takes It All ” by Freya Monk in Year 12 from the musical Mamma Mia in which she had the lead role earlier this year.

Michael Karamitos, the School Council chairman, congratulated the Class of 2025 on their “unwavering commitment to their studies, their school and for setting such high standards for others to emulate”.

Karamitos also updated attendees on the next Campus Development Plan which will future proof Alphington Grammar for generations to come.

The school wished the students all the best in their final exams.
