A tongue in-cheek homage to Oakleigh’s café culture turned heads at Eaton Mall this week, as members of the Monash Hellenic Students’ Society dressed as “pappoudes” (grandpas), complete with flat caps, canes and copies of Neos Kosmos, to film a promotional reel for their annual Tavern Night.

The students staged the shoot among the mall’s tables and umbrellas, play-acting the familiar banter of Greek grandfathers while spruiking tickets to the society’s biggest social of the year.

A follow-up clip shows the team unveiling the event poster, with the message: Tavern Night is on Friday 17 October, an “event not to be missed”.

The society has also set its Annual General Meeting for Monday 21 October, 7pm, at Room S10, 16 Rainforest Walk (Science Lecture Theatres East), Clayton campus.

Tickets and AGM details are available through the society’s social channels.
