A delegation from Oakleigh Grammar maximised their time during the most recent school holidays by attending the International Round Square International Conference (RSIC) in Dubai, celebrating its joining the group as a fully-fledged member school.

The visit saw eight students, accompanied by Principal Mark Robertson, Round Square Coordinator Rebecca Bettiol and Senior School Pastoral Coordinator Manoj Patel, attend the conference and develop leadership schools and foster global relationships.

The event had the theme “Beyond the Dunes” and saw students and educators from Round Square schools across the globe come together and engage in environmental workshops, adventure challenges, community initiatives etc.

Year 11 student Nefeli noted in a press release the experience was one they never though they would have.

“It opened my eyes to the opportunities the world offers, allowed me to connect with like-minded students, and taught me how leadership can create ideas that change the world, all while building unforgettable memories and friendships,” Nefeli said.

Fellow Year 11 student Dimitrios added:

“The trip to Dubai broadened my understanding of different cultures and showed how something as significant as environmentalism can unite people from diverse backgrounds, creating connections that can last a lifetime.”

Robertson praised the students as “fine young ambassadors” of the school.

Reflecting on the conference as a whole, Principal Mark Robertson commented

“Beyond the Dunes was an extraordinary experience for our students and staff, a melting pot of multicultural and highly intelligent young minds.”

The school was presented with a Round Square flag to mark its official status as a fully-fledged Round Square member school, which it presented to the rest of its students at the commencement of Term 4.
