New Brisbane Roar midfielder Georgios Vrakas has revealed his Socceroos ambitions as he embraces his Australian roots.

Vrakas’ youth career saw him at PAOK Academy and Italian Serie A giants Napoli.

He returned to Greece to play for PAOK before joining Atromitos then last season on loan at second-tier Athens Kallithea.

According to news.com.au, since his father was born in Australia, Vrakas could play in the A-League without filling a visa player spot.

Many Australian clubs were interested with Brisbane winning the battle for the 24-year-old’s signature.

“I will bring my experience from Europe, my quality, my creativity, shooting, passing … we’re all ready to start the season,” Vrakas said.

“My new teammates are good people, good players – we’re a very strong group.”

Vrakas also liked the style of Brisbane coach Michael Valkanis, who is in his first season in charge of the Roar.

“He likes us to play football, which is the most important thing, to play good football,” he said.

Vrakas, who still has some family in Sydney, has also embraced the Brisbane lifestyle.

“It’s a very nice city. I like it a lot here,” he said.

“I’ve heard about the strong Greek community here and in all of Australia, so that’s also good.”

Having represented Greece at youth level in U16, 17, 18 and 19, Vrakas now eyes on wearing the green and gold.

“If I was to get called up, of course I would love to play for Australia,” he said.

“I don’t know too much about the national team, yet.”

The Greek is set to make his A-League debut on Friday night against Macarthur FC at Suncorp Stadium.
