Victoria has recorded a full week without cases of COVID-19 community transmission since the state’s fourth lockdown, while in NSW there have been more than 330 locally acquired cases since mid-June when the virus broke out in Sydney.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian is tpday expected to announce an extension of the state’s lockdown rules which were first implemented twelve days ago.
The lockdown was scheduled to end at the end of Friday, but the state is still in a dangerous situation with the Delta strain active in the area.
Ms Berejiklian is also tipped to announce new restrictions for teachers and students when school resumes next week. It is expected that learning will be online for schools in Greater Sydney for four days, however regional NSW schools will be able to return to face-to-face learning.

In Victoria, the situation is much better and it is hoped that restrictions will ease.
On Wednesday morning, the government is expected to announce the next step towards a COVID-normal Melbourne.
Victorians have been living under the same set of restrictions for the past fortnight which include mandatory mask wearing while indoors and a 75 per cent workplace cap for offices.
Business groups would like to see these measures scrapped and it is also hoped that AFL fans will be allowed at the clash between Carlton and Geelong on Saturday following the confirmation of the cancellation of Australia’s Grand Prix and MotoGP this year. Sports Minister Martin Pakula said he is confident that the events would go ahead in 2022.
