While most of Australia is in lockdown, its women’s 4x100m relay team is making us proud with the country’s first gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

Bronte Campbell, Meg Harris, Emma McKeon and Cate Campbel brought it home in world record time an amazing total of 3:29.69 seconds — the first team ever to go under 3:30.

It was McKeon that recorded the fifth fastest split of all time during her leg time of 51.35secs followed by Cate Campbell who clocked one second more, while Bronte Campbell and Meg Harris with 53.01secs and 53.09 secs respectively secured Australia’s win.

“Being part of this relay especially always lifts you and just going out with the girls gives you that extra bit of adrenaline. I actually feel a lot more relaxed going in with the rest of them.” said McKeon.

Meg Harris added: “It’s incredible, there’s no feeling like it. Last night swimming with Maddie and Mollie as well and then to get the opportunity to do it again in the final is even better”.

On the same note, Bronte Campbell said that “It’s been incredible. It’s been a long time for this team and one of my best memories of being part of this greater Australia team is being part of this particular team. It’s an incredible group of girls. It’s fantastic to have Meg here and have the next generation coming through is also amazing.”

Meanwhile, Australia claimed its first 2021 Olympic medals with Jack Mcloughlin’s silver and Brendon Smith’s bronze at the 400m individual medley final.
