New South Wales has hit its third highest daily record of locally transmitted COVID-19, while 12 suburbs remain into tight lockdown.

With 262 locally acquired cases and one more death related to COVID-19, government officials urge NSW population to get vaccinated.

According to health services, 70 of the newly detected cases had been active in their communities for some time prior to being tested and isolated.

The COVID-19 related death was reportedly a woman in her 80s who was not vaccinated while being a resident of Summer Hill’s Wyoming aged care facility. The woman passed away at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, raising the total death toll since the beginning of the outbreak to 28.

Moving on to Queensland, as of 4pm today residents will be relieved from stay-at-home orders while the nine new locally acquired COVID-19 cases announced earlier have caused new concerns. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said, however, that restrictions including mask wearing outside and inside will remain for another two weeks.

Residents in Cairns and Yarrabah are also entering a snap three-day lockdown following a taxi driver who remained contagious in the community for over a week testing positive for COVID-19.

In Western Australia, a coronavirus-infected crew member from a Chinese bulk carrier that docked at Fremantle Port is currently in the ICU at a Perth hospital in critical condition.

Aside from that patient WA recorded zero new cases overnight despite concerns about BBC California, another ship with COVID-19 infected crew members.
