Unknown assailants have vandalised the main vaccination center in Peristeri, a suburb in western Athens.

The centre has since been placed in emergency mode on Friday after the vandals cut the wiring of the generator for the refrigerators jeopardising the effectiveness of thousands of vaccines at the same time the city was suffering from several power outages due to the fires surrounding northern Attica in the most intense heatwave the country has seen on 30 years.

By cutting off the generators that were supposed to activate in case of a power failure the vaccines would be at risk. The incident, is currently being investigated by the Police who believe it was an anti-vaxxer action.

Meanwhile, Greek authorities have recorded 2,768 new cases of COVID-19 and 10 dead in the last 24 hours from Friday to Saturday.

Seven of those cases were detected at the country’s entry point while 198 patients remain intubated in intensive care units across the country.
