Emergency services were called to Marrickville in Sydney’s inner west just after midday last Friday after a 55-year-old man was stabbed.

A 62-year-old was arrested over the stabbing, and it is alleged he stabbed his victim multiple times in the torso.

Sam Gravanis, friend of the victim, has started a GoFundMe page to support the victim’s family.

“His family has been notified, he’s a local man and my condolences go to his family,” Sam Chrisafulli said, Superintendent of Inner West police command.

“It’s not what you’d expect in the middle of a suburban area at all. I want to take this opportunity to reassure this community that it is safe in Marrickville.”

The man arrested was also taken to Royal Prince Alfred hospital for pre-existing injuries and he stayed there under police guard.

Superintendent Chrisafulli said both men were known to police and had no links to organised crime.

Crime scenes have been established at both Marrickville and Dulwich Hill and will be forensically examined.

Locals say the police have asked them for any CCTV of the incident.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
