The last time Victoria had infections in the triple digits was on 3 September 2020 with 113 cases, however this figure has been surpassed as the state recorded 120 cases on Wednesday.

A woman in her 60s in Hume and a 49-year-old from Northcote with COVID-19 have died in their homes, marking the state’s first coronavirus-related deaths in nine months. It is still unclear whether the women had been vaccinated or if they had underlying health issues.

The new toll comes as playground bans may be lifted from Friday in Victoria’s road map out of lockdown, with the zero-case target fading.

Government ministers and health chiefs also explored increasing the 5km travel limit to around 10km.

Specific case targets were expected to be set to trigger the “mild” easing of COVID rules.

Victorians concerned about mental health impacts more than the virus

A new YouGov poll found more than 60 per cent of respondents were worried about the impact of lockdowns on mental health and damage to businesses and job losses. Lack of contact with family and friends is affecting 60 per cent of people in Victoria.
