The fatal car crash that took the lives of Savva and Ismini Menelaou, and sees their son Menelaous in critical condition and fellow passengers, husband and wife Elias 60, and Maria, 45 Mesaritis, has not only turned the world of these two Greek Australian families upside down, but has rocked the community as a whole.

On Sunday night, it is alleged that a Brazilian national Nei Lima DaCosta drove at speeds in excess of 120 km/h when he ran a red light hitting the car with the passengers inside at the intersection of Warrigal and Dandenong roads in Oakleigh. DaCosta – who was allegedly on ice at the time of the accident – also killed pedestrian Anthony Parsons.

“I feel disgusted,” says Jim Menelaou struggling to find the words to explain the events of the week The youngest of the three sons of Savva and Ismini is now having to face life without his parents, and with a brother fighting for his life. Along with his eldest brother Mario, they have become the tragic figures of the horror of Sunday nights car crash that claimed three lives.
