The 6th Athens Xclusive Designers Week, (AXDW), billed as “Greece’s most glamorous fashion event”, concluded yesterday.

It was held at the Ethniki Asfalistiki Conference Centre as part of the Athens International Fashion Festival.

The week was replete with 20 local Greek designers as well as international contributors, who presented their latest collections for Spring/Summer 2010.

Angelos Frentzos who lives and works in Milan was back in Athens after a five-year absence. Known for his collaborations with contemporary artists, his collection was characterised by a surge of power rock and art elements.

Paola Frani, the Italian designer known through the Tsandilis outlets and Ioannis Guia, a Greek fashion leader, who now lives and works in Paris, were also part of the program.

Other names that make fashionistas dizzy included; Jane McMillan from Glasgow, known for the seductive outfits she designed for Danny Minogue and Paris Hilton; Notis Panayiotou the jewellery designer and member of the board of the federation of designers in Cyprus; Theia an unique designer of corsets which reflect French vintage style; and, Sense Nu by Dionisis Chalikias whose collection Fragile Beauty was inspired by medieval chivalry and the Amazons of Middle Earth.

The new collection by Stelios Koudounaris had a wild elegance with an edgy futuristic attitude, while Celebrity Skin by Dimitris Strepkos & Eleni Mparla presented special avant garde creations in ice tints.

Local designer Alexios Romanos presented his first complete collection of haute couture in classic whites, pinks and blues.

AXDW is known for promoting new talents and this year a range of new designers were competing for 3 awards. The Designers Week also saw some of the Athens’ glitterati and ‘beautiful people’ come out to party in the event and to welcome a cornucopia of new fashion.
