The rise of Nick Kyrgios hasn’t just grabbed headlines in his native Australia, but internationally as well. The half-Greek half-Malaysian youngster has just had one of the most influential experiences of his life while he gets ready for the French Open.

Seventeen-time grand slam champion Roger Federer invited Kyrgios to come and practice with him on the red clay in Zurich last week.
Kyrgios couldn’t contain his praise for the Swiss champion during their private training sessions and took to Twitter to express his thoughts.

“I’ve had a great few days hitting with the king of tennis @rogerfederer & loved every minute,” he tweeted.

Federer hasn’t had much luck of late, bowing out of the Italian Open earlier than expected, reaching the second round before being bested by Jeremy Chardy last week.

Kyrgios on the other hand has been chipping away at his singles rankings and will once again contest the French Open.

He’s been given a wildcard shot at the tournament, which last year he used to announce himself on the world stage. He went on to beat former world No 8 Radek Stepanek in his Grand Slam debut.

Most recently, his singles ranking has been climbing thanks to his tireless work at the ATP challenger tournaments.

The 19-year-old currently sits at 159 in the world singles rankings after solid wins in America.

Kyrgios will be playing at the French Open from May 25 to June 8 before he travels to London for Wimbledon.
