Victorian Labor leader Daniel Andrews announced that an Andrews Labor Government will duplicate the Chandler Hwy Bridge and ease congestion for thousands of hard working Victorians who use the bridge every day.

The Chandler Hwy Bridge between Fairfield and Kew has consistently ranked as number 2 in the RACV’s Red Spot Survey of excessive congestion spots in Melbourne.

Last week, Labor committed $110 million to the project which will incorporate the heritage listed bridge in the plans.

The Victorian Leader of the Opposition after the announcement said: “Denis Napthine has done nothing in three and a half years to fix the Chandler Highway Bridge with detailed plans sitting on the shelf at VicRoads and gathering dust.

Labor has listened to the residents of Melbourne’s north who’ve said they want this bridge fixed. Only Labor will get on and do it.”

Jenny Mikakos, Shadow Minister and Member of the Legislative Council for the Northern Metropolitan Region, welcoming the initiative stated: “This is a great announcement for residents in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, residents of suburbs such as Northcote, Ivanhoe and Kew.

It will benefit everyone who gets stuck on the bridge trying to get onto the Eastern freeway or wanting to cross the Yarra River.

Duplicating the the bridge will improve both safety and congestion”, said Ms Mikakos.
