Greece’s left-wing prime minister, Alexis Tsipras, met with the Australian Ambassador in Greece John Griffin last week where he expressed his interest in visiting the land down under.

The prime minister and Mr Griffin were said to have discussed the strengthening bilateral cooperation between Greece and Australia, namely in the economic sector.

Prime Minister Tsipras showed particular interest in the Greek diaspora of Australia, stating that he hoped to visit “as soon as the conditions [in Greece] allowed for it”.

The two discussed the Greek diaspora and the support such a community presence abroad provides for Greece, acting as a connecting bridge between the two countries.
