Greek-born Sydney Roosters chairman Nick Politis admitted this week that he was keeping a close eye on former NRL star Jarryd Hayne, who is trying his hand out at an NFL career in the United States.

Hayne has been in the US pursuing his dream of playing American football with the San Francisco 49ers, quitting the NRL at the conclusion of the 2014 season.

He has survived the first round of roster cuts with the NFL side and will await his fate this weekend with the 49ers to announce their final 53-man squad for the upcoming season.

Despite Hayne’s endeavours, Politis told Roosters Radio that he would love to see him in red, white and blue, despite a return to the NRL becoming increasingly slim.

“It would be a good one to make a reality,” Politis said.

“I think he’s going so well that he’ll stay there for sure.”

“It’s fantastic … if it works out all right for Jarryd.”

The 27-year-old ‘Hayne Plane’ played 176 games for NRL side Parramatta Eels and represented Australia 12 times. He also featured in New South Wales’s successful State of Origin side in 2014 and won the league’s illustrious Dally M medal in the same year.
