Greece started its EuroBasket 2015 campaign on the front foot, with victories in its opening four matches ensuring it qualified for the next stage of the competition.

Yesterday morning’s clash against the Netherlands was a dead rubber for the national side, which will now be preparing for its next opponent in Lille.

Greece opened its campaign with a comprehensive 85-65 victory over FYROM, after leading by only five points with a minute remaining in the third quarter.

It then faced Croatia in front of a local crowd in Zagreb the next day. Despite the Croatians leading by as many as eight points in the fourth quarter, the Greeks went on a 13-2 run to finish winners. Olympiakos’s Vassilis Spanoulis finished the game with 16 points, six assists and four rebounds.

Following one day’s rest, Greece was back in action against Georgia winning comfortably 79-68 and never looked like losing, after leading by as much as 23 points in the second half before Georgia made the
scores more respectable.

With Greece three-and-zero, it continued its winning momentum, defeating Slovenia 83-72, courtesy of a Spanoulis blitz again, who contributed with 19 points, six assists, two rebounds and one steal.
Greece beat Netherlands 68-65 and remains undefeated in five matches in Eurobasket 2015. Their next opponent is Belgium.
