After six years of operation, the Acropolis Museum has secured its place among the hearts of local and foreign tourists and art lovers.
According to the Travellers’ Choice Awards released early this month by TripAdvisor, the museum ranked 11th best in a global list of 25 and made it into the top eight in Europe.
“Honouring nearly 600 institutions worldwide, the Travellers’ Choice awards have recognised the favourite museums that serve as cultural treasure troves for our community of millions,” said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor.
The travel review website uses an algorithm to assess the quality and quantity of submitted reviews by users, and compiles its list of the top institutions on an annual basis.
Ranking at the top of the list was the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, named best museum to visit worldwide, while the European equivalent title was awarded to the Musee d’Orsay in Paris.
The Acropolis Museum also came first out of a top 10 list of Greek museums, followed by the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.
